Bonnie Louise Leonard

Bonnie Louise Leonard, age 94, passed away at Skyline Manor Nursing Home, Floyd, VA on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Rev. Kenneth R. Leonard; daughter, Rebecca Daughtry; granddaughter, Shana McGee; and many other beloved family members.

Left to cherish the many wonderful memories of their loving mom is her daughter, Linda McGee, Lexington, VA; son, Richie & Susan Leonard, Willis, VA; and son-in-law, Gary Daughtry, Ayden, NC.  Bonnie was a wonderful Memaw to five granddaughters & their spouses;  Carla  & David Clark, Lynn Loflin, Jennifer & Pete Magielnicki, Megan & Daniel Wetherington, and McKinley (Luke Sloss) Leonard.  She was also known as Old Memaw to her great-grandchildren; Tyler, Katie, Nick, Matthew, Maribeth, Gabriella, Braxton, Mischa, Charlie, Thomas, Opie, and Bella.  She also has two great-great-granddaughters, Myah Grace, Harper Lynn, Harper, and Harmony.

Bonnie and Kenneth first started their Christian ministry in Collierstown, VA until they were called to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Bassett, VA where they served over 30 years.  Bonnie was an excellent seamstress mending many things and making doll clothes for the granddaughters.  In her later years, she enjoyed sitting at her kitchen table watching for the deer and birds to come by her window while putting together many, many puzzles.  Her cooking couldn’t be matched through the years that she provided for the many missionaries while they were visiting with the congregation at Tabernacle, their church family, not to mention her own family.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023 in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Colonial Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, VA with Rev. George Warden officiating. The family will receive friends from 5p.m. until 7p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Skyline Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation for their kind and loving care for Mom over the last two years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Floyd Co. Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 33, Floyd, VA 24091, where her son is a volunteer firefighter or to Burks Fork COB Building Fund, c/o Pastor Mike Battle, 4840 Floyd Hwy North, Floyd, VA 24091.
