Derrick Anthony Yoders

Derrick Anthony Yoders was taken to Heaven at his home on December 1, 2018 after a long hard fought battle with illness.

Derrick was born on August 29, 1994 in Blacksburg, VA to Tiffany Lemons and Kevin Yoders.

Derrick attended Floyd Elementary and Christiansburg Primary, Middle, and High School. He furthered his education at Radford University’s on-campus transitional program where he learned many life skills.

Though he had some difficult challenges in his life, Derrick always had a positive attitude. He always had hugs for everyone and had a love of people and a joyful spirit. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics, music, Virginia Tech, and any shows involving cops or wrestling.

Derrick showed us all what is most important in life: to show love, live in the moment, and to never hold a grudge. He has left a place in our hearts that we can never fill. He will be missed.

Derrick is survived by his mother, Tiffany Lemons of the home; special caregiver of 15 years, Jeanette Calloway of Christiansburg, VA; uncles and aunts, Robert (Barbara) Lemons of Savage, MD, Donna Sweeney of Floyd, VA, Kimberly Saunders-Young (Chris Mayweather) of Thomasville, NC, Linda Shelton Srygley of Hilton Head, SC, Tamara Lemons of Floyd, VA, Kevin Lemons of Johnson City, TN; a host of special cousins and friends; special friend, Darlene Washington of Christiansburg, VA; and his special furry friend, Choo Choo.

Derrick is preceded in death by his grandparents, Irvin & Mary Lemons; uncle, Irvin C. Lemons; and special da-da Michael Scott.

It is not the quantity of our years but the quality. Derrick is listening to the angel music now, surrounded by his loved ones. There is no more sickness, pain, or suffering. We thank God for having him in our life these last 24 years.

The family would like to acknowledge the many special people in Derrick’s life throughout the years: Johnna Elliott, Kevin Siers, Molly Prillaman, Cindy Roop, InMotion US staff, Rev. Dr. Clinton Crump, Little River Missionary Baptist Church (special thank you to Mary Via), Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Lewis Gale Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospice, Christiansburg Police Department, and Maberry Funeral Home. While this is a small portion of the people who impacted his life by their many acts of kindness, please know that this has meant the world to us. Thank you so much. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

“I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept my faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Funeral Service will be held on at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Clinton Crump officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
