Drayton Lee Mabry

Drayton Lee Mabry, 96 of Indian Valley road, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was the son of Fred Lee and Myrtle Haley Mabry. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosa Mabry, and his sister Velma Akers.

He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford. He was the owner of Mabry’s Grocery for 40 plus years, and his passion was running his country store, sometimes starting at 4:00 a.m.

He is survived by two nieces, Sonya Regan and Kathy Benedetto; two nephews, Neville Smith and Ramsey Gallimore; who cared for Drayton during his later life. Special thanks to the English Meadow Staff and Good Samaritan Staff.

Funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Gethsemane Baptist Church with Pastor Ersell Alderman officiating. The interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service. A Masonic service will be held at the graveside by the Snowville Masonic Lodge #159. 

Maynard Clarence Gallimore

Maynard Clarence Gallimore, 58, of Christiansburg, went to be with his Heavenly Father,   Monday, September 19, 2016.  He is preceded in death by his father Arbie Gallimore.

He is survived by his wife, Tamela Gallimore; son, Dustin Gallimore; mother, Colene Gallimore; sisters, Kathleen Belcher, Annette Asbury, Rhonda Sowers (David); many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; mother and father-in-law, Linda and Ernie Price; sister-in-law, Tina Rupe (Greg).

A special thanks to Mike Cooper for always being there for Maynard.  Also a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and palliative care nurses at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Funeral will be held at  2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Rev. Vinton Quesenberry officiating with interment to follow at Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery.  Family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Violet McPeak "Granny" Hubbard

Violet McPeak “Granny” Hubbard, age 96 of Floyd, departed this life for her heavenly home on Saturday, September 17, 2016 . She was born August 13, 1920, to the late Benjamin “Bennie” Harrison McPeak and Effie Boyd McPeak.

  She is survived by her son Jackie Wayne Hubbard; step-son Charles McCoy Hubbard; and six daughters India Mae Berkley, Mabel Delores Agee, Alreda and husband David Harvey, Geneva Huff, Sylvia and husband Frank Radozycki, and Frances Hollandsworth. A dedicated, caring, and loving mother and grandmother, she leaves behind her grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are three brothers Palmer, Ross, and Clifton McPeak.

  She was preceded in death by a beloved sister Lillian Mae “Katie” McPeak, three brothers Wiley, Wesley and Marvin McPeak, and an infant great grandson Joseph Harvey. Four hours after Granny’s passing, she lost a grandson Jerry Branscome.

  She was a long-time member of Skyline Pentecostal Holiness Church just off  the Blue Ridge Parkway in Meadows of Dan, VA.

  She was owner and manager of Tex’s Drive-In Restaurant in Floyd, VA for many years. The young people knew and respected her as “Granny”. She had a kind heart and was always willing to listen and many times giving them good sound advice.

  Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016  at Maberry Funeral Home with the Rev. Mac Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.

Lois Sutphin Hancock

Lois Sutphin Hancock, 61 of Floyd, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Sutphin; husband, Marvin Hancock; brothers, Jack and Larry Sutphin.

Left to cherish her memory are her father, James Elmer Sutphin; daughter, Diane McMillian (Jerry); special grandchild, Jacob Davis McMillian; brother, James Edward Sutphin; sisters & brothers-in-law, Doris Weddle (Ronald), Geneva Hylton (Tommy), Teresa Harman (David), Carol Montaigne (Larry); mother-in-law, Sylvia Hancock;four nieces and four nephews.

Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cecil Brown officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Alderman Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers Donation may be made to Maberry Funeral Home, Inc. for Lois Hancock.
