Douglas D. Smith

Douglas D. Smith, 74, of Roanoke, VA died peacefully in his home early Thursday morning, October 10, 2019. He was born in Copper Hill, VA to Jack and Beulah Smith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea; and sisters & brothers-in-law, Betty Louise “Tootsie” Smith, Jackie & S.L. Spangler, Calvin Lee Roberson, Bobby Walters, and Jack Reynolds.

Doug enjoyed trout fishing, tractor pulls, and honey buns, but don’t tell his wife, Chris. He enjoyed time well spent with his family, especially his granddaughters, and helping his brothers on the farm. 

He is survived by his wife, Christine, of 51 years; daughters, Cindy Strauser (Rick) and Erica Jones (Jason); and granddaughters, Emma and Willa Jones; siblings, Helen Roberson, Margaret “Totsy” Walters, Charles Smith (Gracie), Brenda Reynolds, Steve Smith, and Patsy Altis (Wayne); brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Michael McHugh (Sigrid), Kathleen Famiglietti, Eileen Brown (Ted), John McHugh, Dennis McHugh (Trish), and Regina McHugh (George) ; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with Pastor Dan Johnson and Pastor Pete Bain officiating. Interment will follow in the Copper Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Copper Hill Cemetery, c/o Charles Smith, 8358 Deer Run Rd, Copper Hill, VA 24079.
