Betty Rose Spangler



Betty Rose Spangler, 77 of Floyd, formerly of Shawsville, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Spangler; infant child, Robert Jackson (Jackie) Jr.; parents, Eli and Rosanah Rose; sisters, Edith Coleman and Minervia Kell; and brother-in-law, William Kell.

Betty was born on August 11, 1936 in the coalfields of Eckman, West Virginia and made her home with her husband of 50 years in Shawsville, Virginia.  She was very proud of her many years as a security guard at Hills Department Store in Christiansburg before caring for her beloved patients at English Meadows Retirement Home later in life.  Betty made the most of her final year of life at Skyline Nursing and Rehab Center where she made many friends and became a passionate Bingo player.  She loved people and was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her children and spouses, Katie and Terry Slusher, Kenny and Tracy Spangler; grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Thornhill, Ashley and Tony Kendrick, and Katherine Spangler; great-grandchildren, Kalie, Haley and Justin Dakota Thornhill, and Maddyson Kendrick; sisters, Patricia Hall, Ruth Neece, and Susie Stamper; brothers, John Rose, Ralph Rose, Daniel Rose and David Rose; special friend and caretaker, Angela Jones. 

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Interment will follow in the Piedmont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the funeral home prior to the service.
