Roy Lee Quesenberry

 

Roy Lee Quesenberry, 78 of Dugspur, went to be with his Lord on Monday, November 27, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis & Ettie Quesenberry; and ten siblings.

Roy worked at the Radford Arsenal, Compton’s Construction, and drove a coal truck for Patsy Trucking before working for himself as a heavy equipment operator. He retired at the age of 62 but continued his love of farming. He was a hard worker who would do anything to support his family who idolized him. To say he was devoted was an understatement.

He is survived by his wife, Mitzie Quesenberry; daughter & son-in-law, Freda & Richard Calfee; step-son, Gary Vest; grandchildren, Staci Moore (Trey), Rebecca Vest, and Justin Vest; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Moore and Ellie Moore, and Brooklyn Vest; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph Weeks, Mozelle Quesenberry, Joyce Quesenberry, and Fred Champ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brent Carrick officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be David Champ, Randall Quesenberry, Anthony Quesenberry, Billy Keith, Chris Bennett, and Brandon Smith. Interment will follow in the Simpkins, Phillips, Turpin, Quesenberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Eddie Harris

 

Eddie Harris, 74 of Salem, formerly of Willis, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmon & Iva Dell Harris; and nieces, Valerie Wade and Megan Gish.

Eddie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and son that will be severely missed. In the words of his first cousin, Rex Bowman, he was “truly a sweet and remarkably merry-hearted fellow.” 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Paula J. Harris; children, Retta Harris Bertges (Mike) and Justin Harris (Melissa Freeman); grandchildren, Miranda Harris, Andrew Harris, Carter Bertges, and Kevin Bertges; brothers, Freddie Harris (Freeda) and Gary Harris (Pat); sister, Sonya Thompson (Gary); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Willis, VA with Pastor Wanda Childs officiating. A time of fellowship and recounting of memories will follow. 

Hugh Edward "Eddie" Howard

 

Hugh Edward Howard “Eddie”, 87 of Copper Hill, VA went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 17, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Ollie Howard.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Judith Howard; son & daughter-in-law, Mark & Donna Howard; granddaughter, Jessie Slaughter; step-grandchildren, Emily Harvey and Francine Porch; 4 great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Edith Light, and Mabel & Wayne Dulaney.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until      11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Brenda Blankenship Rhea

 

Brenda Blankenship Rhea passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023 at her home in Floyd.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy Blankenship and Bertie Reed.

She is survived by her son, Steven Hill; three grandchildren, Britany, Derek and Meagan; brother, Hosea Blankenship (Lana); sister, Peggy Beran (Paul).

Brenda was one of a kind, she lived and died just the way she wanted.

She will be missed by her son and caregivers, Peggy, Kim, Missy, and special neighbor, Margaret Spangler.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mary Ellen Altizer Spence

Mary Ellen Altizer Spence, 87 of Alum Ridge, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Ellen was born and lived most of her life in the White Rock area of Floyd County. She is preceded in death by her parents, Aaron C. Altizer and Ada Lester Altizer; sisters, Chloe Bishop and Geneva Cox.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 69 years, Carlie Spence; son, Stephen Spence of Hendersonville, NC; sister, Hattie Ethel Trail of Radford; nieces and nephews, Cindy Bishop Hylton, David Trail (Sherry), Angelia Cox Quickery (Steven), April Cox Kegley (Stan), Allison Cox Alderman (Scott), Larry Quesenberry (Betty), and Joye Lester (Blake); and brother-in-law, Allen Cox.

Ellen was a woman of deep faith who loved to paint, sew, and read the Bible. She retired from Inland Motor/Kollmorgen after 31 years of service, working in Accounting, as Executive Administrator to the President, and in Human Resources.

Ellen was very active in White Rock Church of the Brethren, teaching Sunday School and as Church Administrator. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed, especially in the community and in her church family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Pugh, Pastor Roy Turpin, and Pastor David Trail officiating. Interment will follow in the White Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers for the service will be, Paul Bartos, David Trail, Shirley Boothe, Bobby Dickerson, Foster Bond and Coby Farmer. Joanne Harman Brusati

Joanne H. Brusati of Roanoke County and formerly of Willis, VA unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. J. Ray Harman and Nancy Smith Harman of Willis.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Brusati of Henrico, VA; son, Stephen Brusati of  Roanoke County; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. David R. Harman and Jean P. Harman of Willis; nieces, Ellen Mukai of Fairfax, VA, Sharon Whalen of Hickory, N.C., Laura LaRoy of Willis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. Ernie Grzenia and Marilyn Grzenia of Wheaton, IL; nephews, David and Brad Grzenia of Wheaton and niece Michelle Engstrom of Naperville, IL; in addition to having several great-nephews and two great-nieces along with numerous cousins.

Joanne was a 1958 graduate of Willis High School and 1962 graduate of Roanoke College. She received her medical technology degree from Roanoke Memorial and furthered her studies at the Duke Medical Center in Durham N.C.

Joanne spent her 40+ year career working in hospitals as a medical technologist around the Roanoke Valley. She was an active and well-respected member of St. John Lutheran Church where she served faithfully in various volunteer roles.

She will be remembered for her kindness, servant spirit, unconditional love, devotion to her family and friends and unwavering faith in Christ.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, November 18, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Robers officiating. Interment will follow in Greasy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until Noon prior to the service at the funeral home.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at St. John Lutheran in Roanoke at a later time.

Clifton "JR" Ferguson, Jr.

 

Clifton “JR” Ferguson, Jr., 43 of Willis, VA and formerly of Dunlow, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, November 9, 2023. He is preceded in death by his father, Clifton Ferguson, Sr.; and grandparents, John & Norina Ferguson and Ira and Dorothy Napier.

JR was most proud of being a devoted husband and son. He was the best father and poppy in the ways that mattered most. He was an avid music lover and guitar player who genuinely enjoyed living life.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria Ferguson; mother & step-father, Janie Ferguson Messer & Donald; children, Victor (Hannah) Quesenberry, Tyler (Ashley) Quesenberry, Logan Quesenberry, and Peyton Harris; grandchildren, Madilyn Quesenberry and Nevaeh Quesenberry; mother & father-in-law, Hazel & Steven Harmon; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Morris Funeral Home in Wayne, WV with Pastor Mark Jarrell officiating. Rebecca H. Richardson

Rebecca H. Richardson, 77 of Willis, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Richardson; and her parents, Charles “Doc” & Mildred Horsley.

Rebecca was raised in Salem and lost her mother at a young age.  She worked as an LPN at Jefferson Hospital in Pediatrics and later at Meadowbrook. She then was a stay-at-home mom and worked at her church for 19 1/2 years after her husband passed.

She was well-loved and she had a special love for children. She had many church callings but her favorite was being Stake Primary President for the area. She had an incredible love of God her Savior and His atonement.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Charles Devan & Falene Richardson; daughter & son-in-law, Heather & Reggie Akers; grandchildren, Holland (Ethan) Rowley, Lakota (Chandler) Call, Destiny Akers, Cozette Richardson, Nicholas Dane Akers; sister & brothers-in-law, Sandra & Earl Clower, Tommy Richardson and Joe Richardson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Branch President Alec Carlson, Jon Passic, and Jamie Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Huffville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Donald G. Earles

 

Donald G. Earles, 97 of Riner, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Lois Walker Earles; daughter, Kathy Earles; son, Jimmy Earles; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Earles; grandchildren, Ursula Woolwine and Jason Earles; great-grandson, Tray Turley; and siblings, Dennie Earles and Dorothy Earles.

Donald was a very loving and caring father who was deeply loved by all. He had a strong Christian faith. He served in the United States Army in World War II.

He is survived by his sons & daughter-in-law, Johnny Earles and Joey and Terri Earles; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Gene Furrow and Vickie and Kenny Waller; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Greg Poff and Pastor Steve and Mary Lou Akers officiating. Interment will follow in the Farris Cemetery with Military Rites by the Army National Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at the funeral home.

Patricia Shelor

 

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Shelor, born in January 1940 in Lowell, Massachusetts. Patricia lived a fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family and community. She graduated from High School in Lowell and went on to achieve great things throughout her life.

Patricia was the loving daughter of her late adoptive father Raymond Croteau. She was also predeceased by her beloved mother, Isabel (Connell) Croteau, her two half-brothers, David Croteau (father of Valerie Croteau), and Raymond Croteau Jr. as well as her first husband, Wesley Ames.

For the past 37 years, Patricia was happily married to her devoted husband, Dwight E. Shelor Sr. She cherished her role as a mother to Valerie Croteau (Mike Bundy) and step-mother to Nikia (Robert Liguori) and Dwight Jr. (Mais). Patricia adored her four grandchildren, Mark Shelor, Silvana Liguori, Sydney Spurrell, and Aiden Bundy.

After graduating from high school, Patricia began her professional journey. She worked for a Trucking Company in New Jersey and a Bank in Arlington, Virginia, before finding her passion as a Public Relations Assistant for a Massachusetts Congressman on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Her exceptional skills and dedication led her to transfer to the Federal Energy Administration, which later became part of the Department of Energy (DOE) upon its formation. Patricia served as a Public Relations Specialist in the office of the Secretary of Energy, working closely with Admiral James Watkins until her retirement in 1994.

In 2002, Patricia moved to Floyd County, where she continued to make a positive impact on her community. She actively participated in various civic activities, demonstrating her remarkable commitment to serving others. Patricia served on the Floyd Local Advisory Board of the New River Community Action (NRCA), and she held the esteemed position of Chairman of the Floyd County Woman's Club Arts and Crafts Festival committee. She organized a successful fashion show fundraiser for the NRCA Floyd County emergency assistance fund and actively supported the Empty Bowls fundraiser for the Floyd County Back Pack program. Patricia also contributed her time and expertise as a board member for the New River Community Action and the Floyd Center for the Arts (Jacksonville Center).

Patricia Shelor will be remembered for her kind and compassionate nature, her dedication to her family, Church (Falling Branch United Methodist Church) and community, and her unwavering commitment to her work. Her legacy of love, service, and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darlene Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the funeral home.

James Floyd Denney

James Floyd Denney, 83 of Riner, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 28, 2023.

James was a spiritual man who knew his Savior. He was a loving husband of 60 years, devoted father to his three children, and proud grandfather of two grandsons.

He retired from Lynchburg Foundry after 36 years to farm full-time. He loved the outdoors and was an avid animal lover, caring for his cattle, cats, and his farm. He had a special way with animals and they would always come running to see him. They trusted his touch and would calm in his presence. He is lovingly known to his family as an animal whisperer.  

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bishop Denney; son & daughter-in-law, Harold & Sybil Denney; daughters, Danielle Denney and Jill Denney; grandchildren, Ethan Hale and Jacob Hale; and sister, Martha Young.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023 the Sunset Cemetery with Pastor Lee Wiggins officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the graveside.

Jennifer Lee Sweeney

 

Jennifer Lee Sweeney, 45 of Roanoke, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023. She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Smith Rea; and mother-in-law, Rita Sweeney.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Tracy Lee Sweeney; son, Austin Claude Sweeney; daughter, Chyenne Nadiene Sweeney; father, Nicholas Paul Rea (Barbara Paitsel); sisters, Kristin Rea and Nicole Rea (Jeff Swaim); nieces, Emily Massey, Morgan Chandler, Addison Rea Swaim, Julie Swaim Camp, and Kelly Swaim Nedvin; and father-in-law, Elwood Sweeney.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 in the Jacksonville Cemetery with Pastor Mark Washington officiating.

Donald Lee Haynes

 

Donald Lee Haynes, 88 of Floyd formerly of Woolwine, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Claudine Vest Haynes; parents, Murray C. & Allene Moran Haynes; and brother, James C. Haynes.

He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Anthony & Jessica Talley-Haynes; grandchildren, Alexis Hudson and Sekai Talley-LaRoche; great-grandchild, Eleanor Hudson; sisters-in-law & brother-in-law, Ina Wood and Lorine & David Huff; nephew, J.C. (Barbara) Haynes; and nieces, Anita (Lamont) Lancaster and Debra Cook.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in the Jacksonville Cemetery with Rev. Richard Thomas officiating and Military Rites by the VFW Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127. Bonnie Belle Outten

Bonnie Belle Outten, 87 of Willis, passed away peacefully at home on September 18, 2023, surrounded by loved ones and her beloved cats. She is preceded in death by her mother, Elsie B. Marshall; father, Elijah Graham Marshall; and her husbands, William A. Outten and Paul S. Hill.

She is survived by her step-children, Daniel L. Outten (Melissa), Debbie DeJesus (Ronald), Donna Marshall (Harvey), Pauline Horton (Richard), David Hill, and Paul Hill; cousins, Betty Quesenberry, Joan Eads, Patsy Marshall, Carol Sue Squires (Carl), and Roger Beuster (Kathy); as well as many more cousins whom she adored.

Bonnie would often say that she had lived three lives – each of which she filled with love, laughter, travel, and cats. She had a zest for life, made friends wherever she went, and always took time to stay in touch with her friends and family. She touched many lives and brought joy to those around her through her warmth, wit, and generosity.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Mitchell Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Nathan Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Cox Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Many thanks to those special people who visited, called, prayed, stayed, and loved her through her final weeks. Chief among those are Debbie, Donna, Polly, Pastor Nathan and Esther. Thanks also to her church family and hospice nurses. Bonnie was a shining example of how to live and die with dignity and grace. She loved her Lord, trusted His amazing grace, and was looking forward to an eternity of love and light in His presence.

Ruth Ann Vest Ingram

Ruth Vest Ingram, 90 of Floyd, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Elvin Ingram; parents, Morris Allen and Ida Mae Cannaday Vest; brothers Kyle A. Vest, Ralph M. Vest, David R. Vest; sister, Dorothy V. Janney.

She is survived by her sons, David W. Ingram (Teresa M.) and Robert L. Ingram (Amy J.); grandchildren, Wayne Ingram (Brandi M.) and their children Rafe Joseph, Limary Ann,  and Tripp Lane, Kassie Landes (Tyler) and their children Lilian Grayce and Theodore Trent, and Jordan Levi Ingram; brothers, Paul L. Vest, Charles W. Vest (Loretta P.), James B. Vest (Katie S.); sister, Marie V. Thomas (Bill); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Ruth was a graduate of Check High School. She spent most of her adult life working with the public at G. J. Ingram and Son Store alongside her husband and sons whom she dearly loved. She was always working, caring for others, working outside in her flower and vegetable gardens, canning and preserving foods. She was a role model for others sharing her talents and life skills freely. Because of these traits and strengths, she was a crucial part in the success of the family business. Her duties varied from farm staff to owner of G. J. Ingram and Son Store and Little River Dairy. She was a master of all that she touched.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin, Pastor Jerry Hylton, and Pastor Darren Landon officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the funeral home.

Freeman “Curtis” Duncan, 82 of Willis, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lillian Sanders Duncan; son, Curtis Anthony Duncan; daughters, Dianna Mullins and Tracy Flynn; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; special daughter by heart, Samantha Phillips and her children, Cheyenna and Jimmy Thomas; brother, Kenneth Duncan; sisters & brother-in-law, Joyce & Junior G. Underwood and Peggy A. Duncan; several nieces and nephews; and his fur baby, Rocky.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Justin Quesenberry officiating. Mattie Jane Quesenberry, 80 of Willis, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Dearn & Ettie Phillips Quesenberry; brothers, Alvis, Avis, Rudolph, Ronald, Glenn, and Eugene Quesenberry; and sisters, Phyllis Keith, Sadie Underwood, and Liddie Weeks.

Left to cherish her memory are her son & daughter-in-law, Danny Ray & June Sutphin; daughters & son-in-law, Joan Marie & David Slusher and Regina Sutphin Compton; grandchildren, Brandon Matthew Compton, Taylor Ryan Slusher, and Brooke Kathleen Slusher; brother & sisters-in-law, Roy Lee & Mitzie Quesenberry, Joyce Quesenberry, and Mozelle Quesenberry; and brother-in-law, Ralph Weeks.

Floyd Francis Bain, Jr.

 

Floyd Francis Bain, Jr., 75 of Check, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 8, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Francis Bain, Sr. & Merlie Phillips Bain; and brothers, Calvin Bain, David Bain, and Joe Bain.

He is survived by his wife, Josie Bain; sons & daughters-in-law, David Lee Guynn, Floyd Lane Bain, Charles Edward & Erica Bain, and Bobby Wayne & Sarah Bain; daughter, Maria Hancher; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren plus one on the way; brother, Dale Bain; sisters & brothers-in-law, Deborah & Jimmy Bowyer and Cathy & Charlie Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Tim Whitten officiating. Interment will follow in the Ambrose Cox Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until Noon prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bobbie Jean Poff Martin

 

Bobbie Jean Poff Martin, aged 89, of Floyd, peacefully passed away and joined her heavenly home on Thursday, September 7, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Beulah and Ewell Poff; as well as her infant brother. Bobbie was born in Willis, Virginia, on October 21, 1933. She had been a devoted member of the Topeco Church of the Brethren for over 50 years, actively participating as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, and serving on various committees. Her last role within the church was as the President of the Topeco Women's Club.

In 1950, she proudly graduated from Willis High School, where she played as a starting forward for the Willis Eagles. Bobbie later worked at Skyline Sportswear until its closure in 1985, after which she began a 25-year career at Walmart until her retirement. Following retirement, she devoted her time to assisting at Maberry Funeral Home. Amidst her work commitments, Bobbie consistently supported her children in all their endeavors, including the FCHS band and various sporting events. She played a pivotal role in establishing the Floyd County Booster Club, where she served as President. After her children graduated, she enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to support her grandchildren in their school activities and volunteered at their school.

For over two decades, Bobbie was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge, serving as both treasurer and President of the Association. Even after her tenure as President, she continued to be involved in the Lodge and was honored with the highest recognition during a pinning ceremony, with the assistance of her grandchildren.

Bobbie is survived by her beloved family, whom she cherished above all else. She leaves behind her daughter, Deborah Snellings of Floyd; and her son, Ervin Martin of Alexandria. Her legacy continues through her two grandchildren, Brandon (Krystal) Snellings of Richmond and Erika Snellings (Alyssa Castillo) of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Bobbie's great-grandchildren, Carson Snellings, Madelyn Snellings, and Olivia Snellings, all from Richmond, were a source of immense joy in her life. She shared a special bond with two close friends, Jo Ann Maberry, with whom she attended Lodge meetings and various children's activities - some even mistook them for sisters, and her cousin friend, Freeda "Pete" Harris, with whom she conversed two or three times daily. Additionally, she was a cherished member of the Harris/Poff family, receiving unwavering support from several nieces and nephews during her final days at home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Angela Carr officiating. Interment will follow in Topeco Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rosie McGrady

On September 7, 2023, Rosie McGrady, 94, a longtime resident of Floyd, joined her husband for their 77th wedding anniversary with angel wings. She was a resident of Heritage Hall, Blacksburg, VA. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence McGrady; mother & father, Viola and Trever Marshall; and her sisters, Lorene, Winnie, and Lassie.

She leaves behind her daughters and son-in-law, Joyce McGrady and Janice and Larry Weeks; grandchildren, Jessica Cromer (Michael), Joshua Cromer, Jason Weeks (Donna), Travis Weeks and wife Katie; and her great-grandchildren, Kaylee Wood and Grady Weeks. She will also be remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Rosie loved baking her famous homemade biscuits, canning vegetables from Lawrence's garden, tending her beautiful flowers, crocheting unique doilies and afghans, and would always welcome company to eat her unforgettable chicken and dumplings anytime they visited. In her younger days she loved to go see Conway Twitty in concert. In recent years, she enjoyed participating in group activities such as playing bingo, attending tea parties, receiving manicures, and visiting with family during her stay in assisted living.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
