Ivan Dallas Nolen

Ivan Dallas Nolen, 91 of Floyd, entered into his heavenly home on Friday, December 3, 2021. He was a beloved and cherished husband to his wife Betty of 65 years, a loving father and papa to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Ivan was proud to be a veteran and served his country in the Korean War. He worked for 39 years at the Radford Arsenal before retiring.

Ivan loved the simple things in life. He was happiest out on the farm with the cows, on the back of a horse, or riding his tractor. He shared his love for nature and his animals with his grandchildren teaching them to ride, fish, and took them on many lizard catching adventures. His great grandchildren were blessed with rides on the four-wheeler and mule.

Ivan was the “greeter” with a big smile who welcomed everyone into his home. In his last years, Ivan blessed all those around him by sharing with them his great faith in the Lord. He was always “thankful” for his blessings, counting them up before us until his last earthly breath.

Preceding him in death were his parents Dallas Crum Nolen, his mother Edith Rakes Nolen, a brother W.G. Nolen, sister Ava Ruth Brindley, sisters-in-law Jean Nolen and Alice Nolen, and his son Richard Ivan Nolen. He is survived by two brothers: Toby Nolen (friend Sandra), and Jack Frost Nolen. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Jean Agee Nolen and two sons: Michael (Sandra) Nolen, and Darrell (Kathy) Nolen. Seven Grandchildren: Christina (Giles) Cochran, Carmon Nolen, Holly (Ben) Kiser, Mitchell (Heather) Nolen, Robin Nolen (Ricky), Jacob Nolen, Jordan Nolen (Cleive). Ten great grandchildren. Many dear faithful friends and neighbors, and the very special Hospice Nurses whom he loved dearly.

Donations may be made to the Veterans or Hospice in Ivan’s memory

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hudgins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery with military rights by The Army National Guard

Nelcie Lee Compton

Nelcie Moles Compton, 85, of Floyd, left us peacefully on December 2, 2021. Nelcie was the daughter of the late Bethleham & Lucy Moles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 cherished years, Melvin Compton; siblings, Marvin Moles, Sr., Mae Moles Page, Lora Moles Linkous, Harris Moles, Iva Moles Gardner, and Lois Moles Edmonds.

Nelcie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chuck Perkins; son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Kimberly Compton; two grandsons, Dylan and Drew Compton; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde Moles (Marsha); sisters, Neva Moles Eversole, Frances Moles Worrell, Shasta Sue Moles, Esther Beth Moles (Dennis Keller); brother-in-law and wife, Cecil Compton (Marlene); sister-in-law, Lois Thompson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Nelcie was a faithful wife and enjoyed her life together with Melvin. They had fun gardening, yardwork, golfing, and going out on the farm. She was most proud of being a homemaker and enjoyed cooking up huge holiday meals. Her giving ways came from the heart.

As a mom, love and care was always felt. She was there to help out in any way. Time spent together will be forever cherished in the hearts of her daughter and son.

She adored her two grandsons. Being a grand-mommy was filled with fun and laughter. She enjoyed playing checkers and Old Maid with them. They always put a smile on her face.

Her family was very important. She loved visiting her brothers, sisters, and their families.

She was a member at Floyd Baptist Church and was involved with many groups throughout the years. The best time was when she was a youth director.

She always looked forward to playing golf on Thursdays with her lady friends at Great Oaks Country Club. She was the first lady to record a hole in one and was a member from 1967 to 2020.

Doris Harris, who helped care for mom, became a part of our family. Special thanks to Doris, Carol Hurst, Susan and Jerry Boothe, Dr. Joel Hullett, Dr. Manuel Marrufo, Carilion Home Health, and Carilion Hospice. Also want to thank family and friends for all the cards, calls, and visits.

Because of her love for children, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Same Fight, in care of Medical Charities of Floyd, C/O Thompson & Griffin PC, P.O. Box 640, Floyd, VA 24091.

There will be a graveside service on Sunday, December 5, at 2 PM at the Lee Cemetery at Tuggles Gap. Arrangements made by Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, VA.
