Marlene Dean Phillips White

Marlene Dean Phillips White, 81 of Bluefield, WVA, went to be with the Lord December 1, 2017.

She is survived by her husband, Sidney O. White; daughter, Deanna Lesa White (Phillip A. White); brothers, Henry L. Dean III, William T. Dean, Stephen M. Dean (Tracey Dean); sister, Teresa D. Schwarz; grandsons, Justin E. Freishtat, Jesse M. Freishtat, Jason N. Freishtat; granddaughter, Amanda E. Anduiza (Anthony Anduiza).

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church (4197 Indian Valley Road NW, Willis, VA) with Pastor Lacy Brooks officiating with interment to follow in the Phillips-Kessler Cemetery. Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

Clyde William Blackwell





Clyde William Blackwell 88, passed away December 2, 2017, at his childhood home on the farm he loved in the Stonewall section of Floyd County, VA surrounded by family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Gordon Blackwell; daughter, Teresa B. Myers (Tim), of Roanoke; daughter Becky Blackwell, Roanoke; grandson, Adam William Myers, South Bend, Indiana; granddaughter, Mallory M. Saunders
(Cary), Richmond. Also surviving are three sisters, Livie B. Thompson (Merlin), Floyd, Annabelle B. Austin (Jack), Roanoke, and Dorothy B. Davis (Curt), Roanoke, many nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law, Rick Gordon and his wife Linda B. Gordon of Christiansburg. Clyde was the son of Moses A. and Attaway Hale Blackwell.
Clyde served his country in the Korean Conflict, and was a truck driver for Rowe Furniture for more than 25 years. He also worked for H.T. Bowling, Inc. in Radford for several years. He farmed, kept beef cattle and grew a most beautiful garden every year while enjoying the Floyd County outdoors. He was a Trustee of the Stonewall United Methodist Church and participated in the work of the church any way he could, and was present every Sunday until his last illness. Mildred Burnette Goad


Mildred Fern Burnette Goad, age 79, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. She was born to Charlie and Hava Burnette of Conners Grove, VA. Over the years she worked at Pannill Garments, cooked for the Floyd jail, worked as a voter registrar, and was a substitute teacher for Floyd County Public Schools. She is fondly remembered as a loving wife and mother. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers, Ronald and Donald Burnette. She is survived by her husband, James B. Goad; her children, Judy (Donald) Cain and Dale (Sharon) Goad; her grandchildren, Emily and Rebecca Cain, Elizabeth Goad; her siblings Wayman (Hilda) Burnette, Lorraine (Earl) Reece, and Larry (Dian) Burnette and her sister-in-law Linda Burnette. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Maberry Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Murray Agee and Rev. Michael Bowman officiating. The interment will follow at Topeco cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home.

David Leaion Huff



David Leaion Huff, 73 of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Frank and Margaret Elizabeth Underwood Huff; siblings, Clifford Clark, Edgar Clark, Silas Huff, Robert Huff, Erma Clark Brogen, Edna Clark Bower, Annie "Irene" Huff Midkiff, Flora Poad, Essie Bradham.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa McDaniel (John), Dena Wood (Dean); grandchildren, Ashlyn McDaniel, Dillon Wood (Lara), Drew Wood; sister, Fran Kraemer; brother, Glenwood Huff; special friends, Ovada Weeks, Mac Gallimore, Sheldon Sweeney, Johnny Mitchell.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Maberry Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Darlene Marshall officiating. The interment will follow at the County Line church cemetery with full military rites by the Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127.

Mary Joyce Williams Walker, 84 of Stony Creek, VA went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 22, 2017.  
She is survived by her sons, Donnie R. Walker of Kannapolis, NC, James A. Walker of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Darnell W. Walker of Huntersville, NC; 6 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren; special loved one, Julie Hopkins of Stony Creek, VA; host of nephews, nieces & cousins.
Funeral service will be held at Noon, Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Elder Michael Preston and Dr. Rev. Clinton Crump officiating with interment in the Little River Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to Noon prior to the service.
