Gary Wayne Spangler



Gary Wayne Spangler, 65 of Hillsville, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025. He was born in Ellicott City, Maryland, on January 10, 1960, to the late Murry Jackson Spangler & Bessie B. Spangler. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his close uncle, Charles B. Spangler, Jr.; and aunt Marie Spangler.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Julianne Spangler; sisters, Janet S. Branch, Karen S. Black; brother & sister-in-law, David J. & Lydean Spangler; many nieces & nephews; and special cousins, Sara Dulaney, and Ralph Roland.

After graduating from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, he moved to Columbus, Ohio. In his spare time he enjoyed reading Sci-Fi novels, listening to Classical music, and building model cars and trains. Gary also enjoyed boating and spending time outdoors.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob McLavey officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Anita Rose Hall


 

Anita Rose Hall, born July 25, 1961, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, departed from this earth and entered her heavenly home on Friday, September 19, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Marjorie Hatfield; brothers, George Hatfield, Jr., Tommy Hatfield, Steve Hatfield; and infant brother, Michael Hatfield. 

Anita is survived by her husband of 36 years, Brian Hall; sons & daughters-in-law, Brandon & Tracy Evans, Sam & Amber Hall, Max Hall; step-daughters, Angela & Jamie Arnold, Carrie & Mark Davis; 12 grandchildren; sister, Debbie & Eddie Powers; and many special nieces and nephews. 

She was a loving and adoring “Nene” to Eli, Jak, and Adi, and “Granny” to Jacob, Ben, and Isaiah. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. 

Anita was a light to all who knew her. She was always smiling and laughing. Anita loved her family so much. She never met an animal that didn’t like her and had numerous “pets” over the years. She could always be seen with her “Bubba Mug” and Diet Coke and laughing while quoting “Christmas Vacation” every Christmas. 

We find comfort knowing that she is celebrating her homecoming with hew Heavenly Father, her family who have gone on before her as well as the numerous animals she loved so much over the years. We will miss you and love you always.

The family plans to hold a private service at a later date.

Nelda Sue Baker


 

Nelda Sue Baker, 83 of Willis, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband, Moir Eugene Baker, Sr.; parents, Dellas & Alma Bolt; brothers & sisters-in-law, Douglas Bolt, Nelson & Vivian Bolt, James Bolt, Maynard & Mary Jane Bolt, Lance “Whitey” Bolt, Dell McCoy “Coy” & Mary Bolt, Alton Bolt, Jr.; sisters & brothers-in-law, Carol Lou & Larry Goad, Iris Louise & Victor Spangler; and sisters-in-law, Freeda Moore, Virginia Marshall, Jewel Lineberry, Geneva Goad, Belva Baker, and Guida Weddle. 

She is survived by her sons, Dellas Montgomery Baker, Moir Eugene Baker, Jr; brother & sisters-in-law, Michael “Mack” & Penny Bolt, Eillen Moran, Elva Price, Sally Bolt, Patty May Bolt, Doris Bolt; sisters & brothers-in-law, Alma Faye & Geraland Dalton, Gloria Jean & Jerry Ray Branscome; and numerous nieces & nephews. 

Nelda was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt. 

The family would like to thank special niece, Karen Dalton for her love and care of Nelda. 

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025 in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Pastor Randy Key officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the cemetery.

Ronnie Wayne Keith, Sr.


 

Ronnie Wayne Keith, Sr., 62 of Willis, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie & Phyllis Keith; and brother, Kenneth Ray Keith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Linda Kazee Keith; sons, Ronnie W. Keith, Jr., Clayton R. & Keisha Keith, Sherman R. Keith; daughter, Kimberly M. & Isaac Phillips; twin brother, Donnie D. Keith; brothers, Jimmy L. Keith, Billy J. & Mercedes Keith; grandchildren, Henry,  Chase, Oliver, and Layla; and best friend, Allen Martin. 

Ronnie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was an outdoorsman and loved hunting and camping. Ronnie loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member at Willis Full Gospel Church. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Willis Full Gospel Church, 165 Burks Fork Road, Willis, VA 24380, with Pastor Joe Cox, Pastor Greg Cox, and Phillip Cox officiating.

Barbara Conner Graham


 

Barbara Conner Graham, 78 of Check, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Nelson Graham; children, David Nelson Graham, John Anthony Graham; parents, William and Lillie Conner; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Covey. 

She is survived by her son, Dwayne Graham; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Douglas Lucas; grandchildren, Crystal Funk (Jonnie), Brandon Lucas (Savannah), Ashley Lucas (Blake Collins); five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 

Barbara was a loving mother and wife. She was dedicated to her church family and was the church historian for many years. She worked at Panel Knitting factory until her children graduated high school. At that time she and John decided they wanted to make a change and became truck drivers. During their years on the road they saw 48 states and went to Canada.   

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 in the Wilson Cemetery with President Michael Hess, Michael Bean, and David Light officiating.

Jerry Lewis


 

 

Jerry Lewis, 67 of Floyd, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Above all, he was a proud father and grandfather who enjoyed sharing with his family about his time in the United States Army. During his time in service, he earned the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Mechanic Badge, Army Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle M-16 Sharpshooter. 

He is survived by his mother, Amelia Turner Lewis; daughters, Alisha L. Farley (Samuel) and Athena L. Devicente (Felix Vicente); grandchildren, Demarion Lewis, Aanali Lewis, Iliana Lewis, Tavion Farley, and Daya Farley; sisters, Loretta Wyder, Virginia Calfee, Fannie Lewis, and Mary Helms; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

Lacie Helen Goad


 

Lacie Helen Goad, 94 of Willis, Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Willie Ray Goad; parents, Freddie and Gertie Weddle; and daughter, Dorcus Goad. 

She is survived by her eight loving children, W.L. Goad, Glen Goad (Nancy), Larry Goad (Alisa), David Goad (Linda), Curtis Goad, Lanor Ward (Mark), Rosetta Jeffries (Brad), Rebecca Goad; and bonus family member, Elmer Turman. 

Helen was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was an avid quilter and loved to crochet. Her memory will live on through her beautiful handiwork that she shared with family, friends, and neighbors. 

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Skyline Manor Nursing Home for the care and comfort they gave Helen. 

There will be a private graveside service held at the family cemetery in Willis.

Linda Rakes Hollandsworth


Linda Rakes Hollandsworth, 78 of Floyd, stepped into her heavenly home early Sunday morning, September 14, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hollandsworth; parents, Mason and Regent Rakes; and brother, Morris Rakes.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Troy Thompson and Lisa Thomas; daughter, Danielle Thompson; stepson and wife; Darrell and Tara Hollandsworth; grandchildren, Taylor and Ashley Thompson, Destiny and Dylan Weddle, Callie and Dakota Johnston, Lacey Bishop and Bryce Patrick, Grace and Hunter Gallimore, Maddie and George Bady, Summer and Paul Davis, Hope and Ryan Shortt, Morgan Hollandsworth, Dawson Hollandsworth and Tinley Hollandsworth; great-grandchildren, Bentley Johnston, Deleah Weddle, Addie Thompson, Braxton Johnston, Anna Thompson, Caden Davis, Braylee Shortt, Laken Davis, Austin Shortt, Randall Wayne Hollandsworth; special friends, Margaret Maxey, Stacy Simpkins, Tommy and Gevena Hylton, and Maurice and Christine Simpkins.

Though she will be greatly missed, those of us who remain can rest in the blessed assurance that we will see her again.

Lorine Vest Huff, 92 of Floyd, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025. She is preceded in death by her twin sister and brother-in-law, Claudine and Don L. Haynes; sister and brother-in-law, Ina and Herbert Wood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harless and Ruby Vest, Alton and Christine Vest, and Freddie and Shelby Vest. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Julian David “Haney” Huff; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric Huff (Gail Bandy), and Dennis Huff (Sandy); grandson, Dylan Huff; special caregiver, Lori Sutphin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. 

The family would like to extend their thanks to Medi Home Health and Hospice and to Callie, Heather, and Morgan who took great care of Lorine. 

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025 in the Jacksonville Cemetery with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating.

William “Italy” Glen Sutphin, 71 of Willis, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vera S. Sutphin; son & daughter-in-law, Brian & Jennifer Sutphin; daughter & son-in-law, Sandy & Dennis Huff; grandchildren, Brianna Sutphin and Dylan Huff; step-granddaughter, Hazel Quesenberry; brother & sister-in-law, James & Judy Sutphin; sisters & brothers-in-law, Ruth & Junior Russ, Becky & Keith Mott, Loretta & Tim Lewis, Kathy Richardson, Rosetta Ferris; brother at heart, Robert “Pete” Bolt; sisters-in-law, Barbara Hamm and Mary Surratt (Ricky); brothers-in-law, Bobby Sutphin (Lori) and Randall Sutphin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ila Phillips Thomas, 90 of Floyd, went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 5, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Andrew J. Thomas, Jr.; parents, Mont & Cora Phillips; and siblings, Rex Phillips, Clint Phillips, Cecil Phillips, Connie Ousley, Violetta Quesenberry, Lucille Weeks, Mae Spicer, and Alma Ratliff.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Michael Andrew & Lydia Thomas; daughter & son-in-law, Rebecca Thomas & Joe Guyer; special great-grandson, Dalton Thomas; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Keith Eanes (Darrell); grandchildren, Kerri Williams (Richard), Karla Rodgers, Brandon Keith, Callie Higgs (Dustin), Ethan Eanes (India), and Maggie Eanes; great-grandchildren, Jarrett Williams (Hannah), Hallie Williams, Evie Williams, Maisie Rodgers, Tanner Rodgers, Ezekiel Eanes, Eliza Eanes, and Elliot Higgs; great-great-grandson, Clay Williams; daughter-in-law, Vicki Keith; sisters, Martha Turpin, and Sue Howell; special cousin, Kenneth Wade; and her beloved feline companion, Teddy.
