Larry “Dean”
Sutphin, age 66 of Floyd Va passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026. Born on
March 25, 1960.
He was a man known
for his love of cars especially fast cars and race cars. Whether he was racing
cars, talking about engines, watching races, or admiring a classic vehicle,
cars brought him great joy throughout his life. His passion was contagious, and
many who knew him will remember the excitement in his voice whenever the
conversation turned to automobiles.
He also loved
spending time with his friends at the Floyd Moose Lodge, where he enjoyed
companionship, laughter, and making lasting memories. The friendships he built
there meant a great deal to him and brought him much happiness throughout the
years.
Above all, he
cherished his family. He leaves behind many loved ones who will miss him dearly
and carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in
death by his beloved grandmother, Beatrice Harman; and his mother, Peggy Keith.
He is survived by
his former wife and friend, Penny Linkous; his stepson, Jeffery (Dawn) Linkous;
his stepdaughter, Sarah (Brandon) Brusseau; and his cherished step-grandchildren,
Tiffany (Shaffer) Kelly, Hunter Linkous, Mackenzie Linkous, Kix Brusseau,
Sophia Brusseau and his great- granddaughter, Wren Kelly; his sisters, Diane
(Calvin) Cannaday, Sandra (Mike) Nolen, Rhonda (Doug) Morris; and brother,
Darrell (Missy) Keith; stepfather, Frank Keith; and several nieces and nephews.
Dean shared a
special bond with all of his grandchildren which he loved very much. Later in
life he developed a special bond with his granddaughter Sophia Brusseau. She
lovingly took it upon herself to make sure he was cared for, always checking
that he had eaten and had everything he needed. Her kindness, devotion, and
unwavering love brought him great comfort. The care she showed her grandfather
was a reflection of the deep love they shared and will always be remembered by
those who witnessed.
He will be
remembered for his passion for life, his love of cars, and the many memories he
created with family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit
will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family would
like to thank everyone with hospice and the nurses at Forever young and for
their thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
He
will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A
celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at
Maberry Funeral Home with family receiving friends after the service until 6:00
p.m.
